A Story of Hope and Community Support – Grants for Infertility Treatment

Mavericks Miracle Babies ISKI recently spoke to Tim Edwards about Mavericks Miracle Babies and how this organization was founded.  I am always so impressed with the professionals that support infertility because so many of them have had their own personal experience with infertility and they have used this experience to help others in their journey.  Tim and Kelsey are an amazing couple that have gone through infertility, were able to build their family AND found a place in their heart to support others along the way.

They gave their first grant award to Melissa & Michael and here is a little more about their story and how Mavericks Miracle Babies grant helped them on their journey.

Melissa & Michael’s Story:

I had always heard once you have your first child, having the second is a breeze. That proved to be a false statement for us. We had been trying to have another baby for a little over a year. We figured it would just be a matter of time, but the months kept passing by. After 2 years, we decided to go see a fertility specialist. We ran every test they had, and could not find anything wrong so we started to talk about what our options were.

After many tests our fertility specialist diagnosed us with “unexplained infertility” which apparently is very common. After spending about 10 months with our fertility specialist, we were finally cleared to start the IUI’s which we did solely for 3 months without success until our doctor put me on Clomed.  After 2 months of Clomed and 2 more IUI’s we were finally able to conceive.  I actually talked my doctor into doing the 5th IUI, because he was ready to do exploratory surgery.  Luckily, the 5th IUI worked and we had our son on August 4th, 2012.

Infertility is more common than I ever believed. I found that we were having some of the same experiences as the founders. We could share our stories and how it was affecting us as individuals and as a couple. The more I shared my story with others, the more I found out how many people are experiencing the same things as my wife and I. Finally, we had success. We had Maxton. He is such a joy and we are so happy to have a new addition to our family. After the years of expenses, stress, anger and every other emotion possible we have our light at the end of the tunnel.  We wake up every morning to a very big smile, waiting for that first big belly laugh to come out, and we know that the smile and laugh exists because, we, as parents, make that little baby happy.

Michael and I were extremely blessed and lucky to be the first recipients of the Maverick’s Miracle Babies Grant.  We spent thousands of dollars out of our own pockets for many months and this gift helped us more than Tim and Kelsey will ever know.  I am so happy and proud to have such wonderful people bless our family and that have hearts as big as Texas.

Maverick Miracle Babies are now accepting grants for Quarter 3 (March 1st – June 30th).  Visit their site for information on the application process, grant criteria and more.
